Evaluation of the Diagnostic Accuracy of Chest X-rays Acquired Using a Digital Camera for Low-cost Teleradiology

Background Fourteen African countries have no radiologists, and in others few radiologists work in rural areas. Teleradiology provides advice to doctors in remote settings but cost and poor internet connections limit its use. This study builds on several previous studies evaluating scanners and digital cameras for low-cost teleradiology. Digital camera images can be attached to emails and sent for teleconsultation but high diagnostic quality and small file size are required. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of low cost teleradiology using a digital camera.
